MATTHEE, John Joseph, Jr. - Age 80, of Fenton, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife of 60 years by his side on Monday, August 21, 2023. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1:30 PM Saturday, September 9, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church (A live stream of the Mass will be available on John's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Fr. Robert Copeland celebrant. Burial in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Fenton. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton Friday, September 8, 2023 from 4-8 PM and at church Saturday September 9, 2023 from 1:00 PM until the time of Mass. A Vigil service will be held at the funeral home Friday at 7:00 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to Adopt-A-Pet, McLaren Hospice or Dementia Society of America.
John was born December 28, 1942 in Detroit, the son of John Joseph, Sr. and Evelyn Florence (Barr) Matthee. He was a 1961 graduate of Berkley High School and he received a Associates degree in Printing and played hockey at Ferris State University. He married Sandra Michele Preckel August 17, 1963 in Rochester Hills. He had resided in Fenton since 1975 coming from Sterling Heights. John retired from Scott Publications in Livonia as a Offset Pressman. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Fenton Moose Lodge. He enjoyed playing cards, golf, classic cars, and bowling. He loved animals, especially his cat Taz. John's most cherished and happiest times were spending time with his loving family and friends and being a huge part of his grandchildren's lives.
Surviving are: his wife, Sandra; son, John Joseph III (Tammy) Matthee; daughter, Michele Matthee; five grandchildren, Courtney, Niki, John J. IV, Mitchell, and Marissa all of Fenton; sister, Marilyn Lomas of Williamson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Deanna Nixon and Carol Jankowski; and son-in-law, Robert Fernandez. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
