William Dery MD., died Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the MyMichigan Medical Center from injuries sustained during a cycling accident, doing what he loved. Son of the late Robert and Joan (Hitchcock) Dery, William was born on December 10, 1951, in Fenton. He married the love of his life, the former Barbara Aldrich, in Fenton on July 26, 1974. He attended Adrian College for his baccalaureate degree before entering Michigan State University for his master’s program and medical degree. William began working as a family practice physician for the MyMichigan Medical Center from 1980 until his retirement in 2020. William was awarded the Towsley Award as the outstanding resident for the hospital and truly loved his work and teaching others. He was an avid cyclist, enjoyed gourmet cooking, gardening, golfing, skiing, and traveling abroad. William also took part in the family legacy as a Director for Fentura Financial and The State Bank. But the thing William loved most was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter.
Left to cherish his memory are his spouse, Barbara; children, Jordan (Ryan) Fernandes and Michael Dery; and one grandchild, Imogan Fernandes. He will also be missed by his siblings, Janet (Anne Woenker) Peugeot, Lynn (Alan) Charnley, and Robert (Deb) Dery; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jan (Don) Reed, Margaret Alrich, Stanette (Don) Albright, and Tom Aldrich; and many nieces and nephews as well as many great friends.
Funeral liturgy for Bill will be at 12 noon on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Father Rob Howe will officiate. William’s family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, August 4, from 3-8 p.m. at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, and again on Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of liturgy. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the MyMichigan Health Foundation for Family Practice Residency.
