MATZKE, James W. "Jim" – of Clio, age 73, suddenly went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at his home with family by his side. Funeral services will be held 11AM Monday, February 22, 2021 at St. Martin Lutheran Church – 10995 Canada Rd., in Birch Run, MI. Pastor James Chinery officiating. Private burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at the church on Sunday from 3PM until 6PM and on Monday from 9AM until the time of service at 11AM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin Lutheran Church. For those unable to attend the funeral services in person, a livestream will be available at the following links:

Jim was born August 30, 1947 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Edwin and Mary (Woodrow) Matzke. He graduated from Birch Run High School in 1965 and later attended Central Michigan University. Jim married Carol Vermeer on September 29, 1973 in Grand Rapids. Mr. Matzke retired from General Motors – Truck and Bus in 2006 with 35 years of service. Jim enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, golfing, and looked forward to playing Santa Clause at Bronner’s each year at Christmas. His charisma and presence brought so much joy and life to everyone around him. Above all, he was a man of faith and dedicated his life to the community of St. Martin Lutheran Church. Jim adored spending time with his friends, family, kids and grandchildren and he will be missed dearly.
Surviving are: Loving wife, Carol Matzke; Daughter, Megan (Jani) Virtanen, Sons: Joshua Matzke, Christopher (Christine) Matzke, and Benjamin (Mandee) Matzke; Grandchildren: Holland (7), Stellen (5), Crew (1), Braeden (13), Ethan (5), Abram (4), Cooper (7), Nash (4), Miller (2), and Greer (11 Mo.); Brothers: Richard (Terri) Matzke, and John Matzke; Sisters: Berta (Dale) Voelker, and Suzanne (David) Marvosh; Many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and dear friends.
