Shields, Jeffery Raymond of Flushing, age 63, passed away on January 7, 2022, at his home with his family by his side. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2022, at Rossell Funeral Home. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday, and 12 noon until the time of the service Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Per Jeff’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to his grandson’s hockey team, the 2011 Flint Jr. Firebirds.
Jeff was born on September 17, 1958, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Gerald and Edith Shields. He graduated from Flushing High School in 1976. He married the love of his life, Mary Kerridge, on September 18, 1976, and they celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this past year. He was an insurance agent for Farm Bureau for 35 years.
Jeff was known for his quick wit, a new story to tell, his infectious laugh, and his love for his family. He enjoyed antiquing with his wife, fishing, classic cars, golfing, his dog (Bud), and was an avid Michigan State fan. He was known as “Papa” or “Papa Mustache” by his grandchildren, whom he adored. He was a member of the Flushing Moose Lodge and the Flushing Masonic Lodge.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Mary; his two children, Kevin (Kristin) Shields and Rachel (Will) Velez; sister, Pam (David) Partin; grandchildren: Trent, Tyler, Kamdin, and Kinslee; several nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Edith Shields; daughter, Kimberlee; and sister, Patricia Brooks.
