Leslie (Les) Duane “Butch” Newton of Columbiaville, age 76, died peacefully with family on Monday March 1, 2021 at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday March 6, 2021 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church 6340 Roberta St. Burton. Fr. Denis Spitzley, Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Family will receive visitors from 1 – 6 pm Friday at the funeral home. Due to CDC Guidelines of social distancing, limited amounts of gathering at one time and masks will be followed. The family understands those who may or may not want to join them at this time and respects their decisions. Mr. Newton will lie in state at the church from 10:00 am Saturday until time of services. Those desiring may make contributions in Butch’s memory to the charity of your choice.
Butch was born in Gratiot County, Michigan on March 28, 1944 the son of the late: Ivan & Rebecca (Fletcher) Newton and has resided in the Columbiaville area for the last forty-nine years. He was joined in marriage to Eleanor Rose Wizynajtys on September 13, 1969 and she preceded him in death on June 1, 2020. He and his wife enjoyed dancing and were members of the Square Stomper Dance Group. He enjoyed the outdoors where he loved to garden and maintain his lawn, and was an avid hunter also. He played several string instruments and especially loved the guitar. Les loved spending time with family and their numerous trips and time up North. Answering the call of his country he proudly served in the National Guard. Les was employed by the Pepsi Company for over forty years until his retirement.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children; Marie Emert, and Randy (Chris) Newton. He also leaves his loving grandchildren; Dagan, Kanen, Stephanie, and great grandson Lane. Also his siblings Michael (Diana) Newton, Arliss (Dan)Liddell, Beverly (Roger) Towne, sister-in-law Barbara Newton, brother-in-law David Flesher, and a host of extended family and friends.
