Carol Elaine Phelps was born on March 7, 1943, in Pontiac, Michigan, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cecil and Margaret (Prescott) Schram. She graduated in 1961 from Holly High School. Carol would work multiple roles throughout her life, beginning to work in the education system. She would work at Armstrong Middle School in the early 1970’s before transferring to Kearsley High School, where she would work as a lunch aid until 1982. Shortly after leaving the schools, she began working at Cooks Drug, later being known as Perry Drug, until her well-earned retirement in 1989. Carol met, fell in love with, and married the love of her life, Delbert Phelps on August 11, 1961. The two were blessed with two children that Carol would cherish forever. Sadly, Delbert preceded Carol in passing on January 6, 2017.
Carol and her husband enjoyed camping in their motorhome, spending a large amount of their time at the Holloway Reservoir, or traveling to Florida and camping near Port Charlotte in the winter. Additionally, she enjoyed shopping, even if it was only window shopping. In her free time, she found joy in sewing, needlepoint, reading romance and mystery novels, as well as completing crossword and word search puzzles. She also loved watching various shows, including Westerns like Gunsmoke, dramas like Falcon Crest, as well as Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and creating new memories.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Robert Phelps, Debbie and husband, Randy Prouty; her six grandchildren: Danielle Phelps, Donald and wife, Brittney Phelps, Ann Marie Renfro, Tiffany and husband, Rami Safa, Nicole Prouty, Nick and wife, Lauren Prouty; her 12 great-grandchildren; her two sisters-in-law: Marge Schram, Ellen Jo Schram; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years: Delbert Phelps; her parents: Cecil and Margaret Schram; her step-son: Wayne Phelps; and her three siblings: Ronald Schram, Donald Schram, and Evelyn Lawson. |
