Birchmeier, Marvin Lawrence of Flint, age 88, died Sunday, May 25, 2025, surrounded by family at his residence.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated noon Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton, with Father Georges Bidzogo officiating.
Visitation 10 AM Thursday at the church until Mass.
Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Holy Redeemer Men’s Club.
Marvin was born in Maple Grove on October 30, 1936, the son of the late George and Agnes (Sutter) Birchmeier.
He graduated in 1954 from Mary Crapo High School in Swartz Creek. He married Joy Burt on January 11, 1958.
Marvin attended GMI and joined UAW Local 659 as a millwright at Chevy in the Hole, where he was known as Beartracks. He retired in 1985 and went on to run Burt Enterprises, specializing in carpentry projects. He was an involved member of his beloved parish, Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, and spent many years as an adorer in the Adoration Chapel. Marvin was a founding member and Third Degree Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 10170 and a Fourth Degree Knight of Council 510. He was instrumental in starting the Holy Redeemer Men’s Club and served the church in many roles. Marvin was a helpful community member, offering service to many, and deeply supportive of his family. He was a board member at credit unions. Mavin loved to travel the United States with friends and family on his Honda Goldwing motorcycle and in a camper. Marvin never met a stranger and treated everyone as a friend.
Surviving are his children, Pamela (Michael) Newton, Jean (Kenneth) Johnson, Lawrence (Karen) Birchmeier, Linda (Daniel) Henry, Kathy (Louis) McChristion, Cindy (Michael) Kauth, and Christy (Laquan) Bradford; grandchildren Michael, Rebecca, Penelope, Shelly, Jaylynn, Emma, Jacob, Alexandra, Breanna, Jennifer, Henry, and Mia; great-grandchildren Ella, Colin, Aryanna, Zyaire, and Khalix; siblings Thomas (Rita) Birchmeier and Mary Jean Parks. He was preceded in death by his wife Joy Birchmeier, his parents George and Agnes, and siblings George Birchmeier, Jr., and Roland Birchmeier.
The family thanks the Hurley Burn Unit staff; the family and friends who gave support over the last month, including Fred Muzer, Cliff VanOverbeke, Keith Snyder, Gary Baker, Mike Hutchins, Chris Lubiato, and Bob Howell; many neighbors including Marvin’s brother Tom and his wife Rita; Dan and Barb Gould and family; and his caregivers from Reformation Home Health, Craig and Tarmara. Marvin had many close friends throughout life, including the active Men’s Club members he affectionately referred to as “my boys.”
