POTSOS, Dimitrios Pantazis “Jimmy” - Of Ann Arbor, Michigan, formerly of Flint, age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Born January 9, 1937, in Rhodes, Greece, he was the 2nd of 4 children of the late Pantazis and Ekaterina Potsos.
Born in Paradisi on the island of Rhodes, Greece. He completed primary school, served in the Greek Navy and worked with his brother at the village barber shop. On July 13, 1969, he married his wife Stergoula on the island. He moved to Flint, Michigan in September 1969. He worked at Paramount Potato Chip and then Palace Coney Island, before he bought United Coney Island on Clio and Pasadena, along with his brother and sister in-law. They later changed the name of the business to Colossus Family Inn. After selling the restaurant, he worked at several restaurants in the Flint area.
Dimitrios was a member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, where he volunteered by cooking for the annual Greek Festival and the famous Friday Fish Fry. He loved cooking and all of the compliments he would receive from happy customers. He worked very hard almost every day at his restaurant and continued with even more passion in retirement.
He and his wife spent half of the year traveling back to his homeland, where they owned a home in his original village. He enjoyed spending time with his brothers working on the family olive groves, where they would eat, drink and enjoy life.
His family was very important to him and would brag about them constantly. He loved feeding everyone with his famous Greek pastitio and rice pudding. Nothing made him happier than when his grandchildren would ask him to make these dishes for them.
Dimitrios is preceded in death by his loving wife, Stergoula Potsos, his brothers Savvas (Stasa) Potsos, George Potsos, and Michalis Potsos and brothers and sisters in-law George Giannouris, Yiannis Giannouris, Andreas Kiriazis, Everett and Despina Trifon and Costas Varvoudakis.
He is survived by his children Pantazis "Peter" (Valerie) Potsos, Andriana (Peter) Theocharakis, Emmanouil (Nicole, fiancé) Potsos, and Ekaterina (Terry) Coombe, grandchildren Athena Potsos, Maria (Dirk) Glover, Dimitri Theocharakis, Jack Potsos, Despina Coombe and Pamela Potsos, and sisters-in-law, Anna Giannouris, Anastasia Kiriazis, Mary Potsos and Vasilia Varvoudakis, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
