GIBSON, Katherine (Mangiaracina) – of Flint, age 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior , Jesus Christ, on January 13, 2024 at her residence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, G-5199 Richfield Rd., Flint, MI, 48506; Rev. Fr. Roy Horning, celebrant. Private interment will take place in Sunset Hills Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 2-7 PM, Friday, January 19, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI, 48423 and one hour prior to Mass on Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Katherine’s memory can be made to Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Catholic Social Services of Genesee and Shiawassee County, or Heart to Heart Hospice.

Katherine was born in Flint, MI on October 23, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Vito and Benedetta (Mattarella) Mangiaracina. After graduating from Northern High School, she attended Baker Business University and then worked at the Flint Police Department, where she met her husband, Gordon T. Gibson. They married on June 25, 1955. He preceded her in death on February 17, 1999. She loved gardening, sewing, baking, canning and quilting with the ladies from her church. She enjoyed music and could often be heard singing songs from her childhood and younger years. She was very proud of her Italian heritage and was a member of the Italian American Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a life member of the Davison Post #4087 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Katherine also attended an interdenominational Bible study for 30 years. It was here that she came to know Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. He became the cornerstone of her life.

Katherine is survived by two children, Gordon Gibson (Flint, MI) and Bernadette (Bonnie) Gibson (Rochester Hills, MI) and one sister, Dolores Yard. Katherine was preceded in death by her two sisters, Janie Salerno and Pauline Salerno and her four brothers, Paul Figioli, Philip Mangiaracina, Peter Mangiaracina, and Samuel Macina.

The family would like to thank Chelsea McKinnon and Brittanie Quick from Heart to Heart Hospice for the special care they both provided.
