Age: 76
Community: Burton, MI

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Dean Taliaferro, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2025, after a long illness with Parkinson’s Dementia, at the age of 76.

Robert Dean Taliaferro was born on December 26, 1948, in Flint, Michigan to Robert and Helen (Hall) Taliaferro. He was a remarkable man, known for his immense kindness, incredible talent, and zest for life. After working for thirty-three years at GM Delphi, Robert retired, but his contributions and passion for his work as an experimental model maker never wavered. He was a skilled tradesman with a love for creating and building, always driven by his curiosity and desire to experiment.

A passionate cook and an exceptional entertainer, Robert loved preparing meals for friends, family, and anyone in need. His cooking was legendary, and he was always ready to whip up something special when there was a need. Whether it was a simple meal or a grand feast, his dishes brought people together and made every gathering memorable.

Outside the kitchen, Robert was an avid reader and loved immersing himself in books, particularly those that kept him informed about the world. He had a deep interest in news and politics, always staying up-to-date and engaging in thoughtful discussions. He had a magnetic personality, and to know him was to be embraced by his warmth and genuine nature. No one was ever a stranger to him—he could strike up a conversation with anyone and leave them feeling like they had made a lifelong friend.

Music was another of his great loves, and Robert had a beautiful singing voice that brought joy to all who heard it. He loved to sing, and his love of music was matched only by his love for the outdoors. Whether he was camping, fishing, or spending time on his boat, the serenity of nature always brought him peace and happiness.

In addition to his many talents, Robert was a dedicated member of his community, serving as a board member for his Homeowners’ Association (HOA). He was deeply committed to the welfare of his neighbors and always took pride in helping to maintain and improve the area he lived in. Though he is no longer with us, the legacy of Robert Dean Taliaferro—his kindness, love, and passion for life—will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace.

Robert leaves behind his wife, Susan, of many loving years; sister Marybeth (Dell) Schipper; children Leslie (Diane) Portail and Ryan (Sara) Camp; grandchildren Ellie and Jack Portail; many nieces and nephews, and several brothers and sister-in-laws, as well as many friends who will always cherish the memories of his generosity, warmth, and laughter.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Helen, sister Kathie, brother Tim, brother-in-laws Jim and Bob, and sister-in-law Joyce.

Mrs. Taliaferro would like to offer her deep expression of gratitude to Medilodge of Grand Blanc and Compassus Hospice for the love and excellent care they provided to Robert.

Memorial contributions may be made to Susan Taliaferro to assist with the medical expenses incurred during Robert's illness.
