SOWA, Jean M. (Currie) - Age 86, of Swartz Creek, passed away surrounded by her family in her home of 65 years, Sunday, October 9, 2022. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Friday, October 14, 2022 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3139 Hogarth Ave. Flint. Fr. Anthony Strouse and Fr. Michael O'Brien concelebrating. Burial in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek Thursday from 1-8 PM where a vigil service will be held at 6:00 PM; and at church Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass. Those desiring may make contributions to The Friends of the Swartz Creek Library or MSU Music Therapy.
Jean was born September 29, 1936 in Prescott, the daughter of Neil and Doris (Symons) Currie. She was a 1954 graduate of Sterling High School. She married Frank Sowa June 23, 1956 in Pinconning and he preceded her in death February 22, 2017. Jean retired in 1998 from the Flint Board of Education as a secretary. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and was a former member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Swartz Creek, where she was member of the Altar Society, Ladies Guild, and worked and organized the funeral dinners. Jean loved reading,traveling, going to the casino, her Lucky Strikes, and a good Stinger.
Surviving are: her children, Susan Sowa, Stephen Sowa, Scott (Kelly) Sowa, Christopher Sowa, and Colleen (Keith) Tinsey; her beloved grandchildren, Daniel (Kelly), Jessica, Michael (Jessica), Allison (Joshua), Forrest, Seth, Mason, and Liberty; great grandchildren, Skye Lee, Nolan, Reid, Joey, Matilda, Zoey, and Franklin; great-great granddaughter, Kaylani; twin sister, Janet Templin; sister, Connie (Bill) Cliff; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Leota Black, Lois Best, Marion Houston, and Donna Misner; brothers, Bud and Jim Currie.
