Norma was born in Flint, Michigan on August 2, 1943, the beloved daughter of the late Phillip and Loretta (Ruddy) Birchmeier. She attended St. Michael Catholic Schools, where the values of faith, family, and service that would guide her throughout her life first took root.
On October 28, 1961, Norma married the love of her life, Richard Dean Beardslee. Together they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and community. They shared 57 wonderful years of marriage before Rick’s passing in 2018, creating countless memories and a legacy of love that continues through their family.
Norma dedicated 25 years of service to Montrose Community Schools, where she worked as the Secretary to the High School Principal. Known for her kindness, organization, and welcoming spirit, she was a familiar and trusted presence until her retirement.
For more than 60 years, Norma was an active and devoted member of the New Lothrop Nazarene Church. Her church was deeply important to her, and she served faithfully in many ways over the years. One role she especially loved was walking the halls on Sunday mornings counting attendance—something she did with pride and joy for decades. It was just one of the many quiet ways she cared for her church family.
Norma had a deep love for sports, but her greatest joy was not just the games themselves—it was the people playing them. She rarely missed an opportunity to be in the stands, proudly cheering on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether it was a chilly evening under the stadium lights or a sunny afternoon on the sidelines, Norma’s presence was constant and enthusiastic. Supporting her family and celebrating their efforts and accomplishments brought her immeasurable happiness.
She was also a devoted fan of Montrose football, faithfully attending games and becoming a familiar and beloved presence in the stands over the years. In recognition of her unwavering support and dedication to the team and community, a special sign bearing her name was placed on the football fence—a small but meaningful tribute to the many years she spent encouraging and uplifting the players she loved to watch.
Family was truly the center of Norma’s world. For more than 35 years, before Rick’s passing, weekly Sunday dinners were a cherished tradition in their home. Those gatherings were important to her, ensuring that everyone stayed close and connected. Around her table, laughter was shared, stories were told, and lifelong bonds were strengthened.
Norma also treasured time spent with friends, often meeting for coffee or going out to breakfast. Her friendships were meaningful and lasting, and she had a special way of making people feel welcomed and valued.
Throughout her life, Norma carried out a quiet but powerful ministry of care. She was known for visiting friends, family members, and fellow church members who were ill, struggling, or simply in need of company. She believed deeply in showing up for others and had a gift for making people feel loved, noticed, and never alone.
She also found joy in life’s simple and peaceful moments—watching the birds outside her front window and taking in the beauty of each sunrise and sunset.
Above all else, Norma was a devoted Christian and a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, her personal Lord and Savior. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and her greatest hope was that everyone she met would come to know the love of Christ.
Norma will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering love for her family, and the warmth she brought to every room. Her laughter was contagious, her smile could light up a room, and her presence made the world around her brighter. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Norma is survived by her five children, Richard (Sherri) Beardslee of Maple Grove Township, Danise Csercse of Montrose, Jeff (Ronei-Sue) Beardslee of Montrose, Shane (Barb) Beardslee of New Lothrop, Dianne (Don) Wyper of New Lothrop; 19 grandchildren, Michael (Brooke) Beardslee, Corey Csercse, Ryan (Courtney) Beardslee, Rondalee Beardslee, Jesse (Harley) Beardslee, Moriah (Tony) Johnson, Rochelle Beardslee, John Michael (Kylie) Beardslee, Cheyenne (Nate) Csercse, Raelynn Beardslee, Grace Beardslee, Nevaeh Wyper, Braden Wyper; 15 great-grandchildren, Karissa, CJ, Ellie, Annabelle, Chloie, Blane, Deacon, Aurelius, Everly, Caitlyn, Adelaide, Isla, Charlotte, Rhett, Presley; brother-in-laws, Frank Bacigil, Pete Case, Jim Beardslee, John (Cindy) Beardslee; sister-in-laws, Kathy Birchmeier, Janice Beardslee and several loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and special friends.
