Bonna K Conroy, 79, of Lapeer, Michigan passed away September 21, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family in the home that her and her husband built in 1974.
Gabby, her nickname from her beloved husband, was born on December 13, 1943 in Alma, Michigan to Clifton “Buster” and Odeal Yanna McAllister. Gabby was the youngest of four children.
Bonna never met a stranger; to know her was to love her. She was active in the church and Daughters of Isabella. She was well known for her faith and devotion to God and her family. After Bonna and Bill met on a blind date set up by her brother Chuck, they entered holy matrimony on February 23, 1968 in St Louis, Michigan.
Bonna is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bill Conroy. She was a loving mother to Cathe (Phil) Kennedy, Tom (Wendy) Conroy, and Karen (Jess) Ihrke as well as her infant son, James “JP”, whom she and Bill lost in 1977. Many others called her ‘mom’ but a special bonus son is Gerry (Joyce Griffin) Martin. She is also survived by Patricia Guzman.
She was a doting grandma to Alyssa Bellant, Ashley (Katie Jones) Conroy, Taylor (Noah Spurlock) Williams, Mitchell Kennedy, Jesse Ihrke, and Margo Ihrke. Although she was also ‘grandma’ to many others over the years.
She had the joy of being a great granny to Leah and Raegin Bellant.
Bonna is also survived by her sister, Sharon (Mike) Curtin, sisters-in-law Sally Conroy and Everill Conroy, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Bonna was welcomed into Heaven by her son, parents, siblings Beverly (John) Reynolds and Chuck (Judy) McAllister, and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to McLaren hospice and especially RN Kristen who showed love and kindness to Bonna as if she’d been a lifelong friend.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 25 at Hill Funeral Home from 3pm-8pm. A rosary for Bonna will be at 6pm and Daughters of Isabella will hold a memorial at 7pm. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, September 26 at 1pm with a one hour visitation prior at 12pm at St John Catholic Church in Davison. Bonna will be laid to rest at St John Catholic Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Catholic Charities in memory of Bonna. |
