Shawn Sheltraw, age 47 of Flint passed away on Saturday November 6th, 2021 at Hurley Medical Center-Flint.
A Celebration of Life Service and dinner will take place on Friday, November 26th at 4 PM, at Dom Polski's, Linden Rd., in Flint. Pastor David Boillat officiating.
Shawn was born in Flint, Michigan on February 1st, 1974 to Loren Sheltraw Sr and Lois (Boillat) Moro. Shawn grew up in Flint and in San Diego, CA. He moved back to the Flint area when he was 17 where he continued to reside and work. In the early 90's Shawn worked for Elias Brothers-Big Boy at their food commissary, manufacturing food products. He later took a job with Meijer on Pierson Road in Flint, then transferred to their Swartz Creek location. Shawn had a 22-year career with Meijer where he continued to work up until the time of his death.
Shawn loved his family and friends, he showed it and they knew it. He would do anything to help anyone, even if it meant stretching his last dollar and coming up short on his end. Shawn looked out for others and would do whatever he could to help them through difficult times. He had many friends that knew they could count on him and vice versa. Shawn loved children. His family often took in and provided for children who were not their own but became a part of their family. Most of them are young adults now who will always love and respect Shawn for the love, care and guidance he provided. Cameron Raquepaw is one of those young adults who became and remains a part of Shawn’s family.
Shawn enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He liked watching movies, hanging out in the yard, camping, playing horseshoes, being at the lake, campfires, playing cards and going to the casino. Shawn had a great sense of humor, and the ability to make people laugh at everyday life situations. He had a laid-back personality, with the biggest heart, and contagious smile. If Shawn was smiling or laughing, everyone around him could not help but do the same. A "Shawnism" phrase he will always be remembered for is "same ol same ol." Whenever anyone would ask, "how you doing Shawn, or what's up Shawn?" His reply, every time, "same ol same ol."
Most important to Shawn and what gave him the most pride was the life he had with his family; his forever love, Candice, their two sons, Chanz and Chase and their dog, Buster. He made it his purpose to love, provide for and protect them. His Family was all he ever wanted and needed. They were his everything, his greatest happiness, his life.
Shawn is survived by his loving family, Candice Gatica and their two sons, Chanz & Chase Henderson, his father Loren (Mary) Sheltraw Sr., mother Lois Moro, siblings Karen (Phil) Boillat, Kim (Jim) Ruzzin, Jeannie Whiteside, Jackie Moro, Cher'ie (Patrick) Fisher, Jammie Whiteside, step brothers Mickey (Tami) Bauchan and Matthew Bauchan, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Charles (Charlie) Sheltraw, Loren Sheltraw Jr., sisters Jodie Sue and Susan Lynn Sheltraw, uncle Lawrence Sheltraw Jr., grandparents Harold and Jeanette Boillat, and Lawrence and Evelyn Sheltraw Sr.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
