DORLAND, Bruce E. - Age 89, of Fenton, died November 29, 2019. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, December 6, 2019 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held 3-8 PM Thursday. Those desiring may make contributions to the Disabled American Veterans. Bruce was born March 10, 1930 in Flint, the son of William E. and L. Ruth (Lockwood) Dorland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. Bruce was the City of Fenton Fire Chief from 1964, until his retirement in 1989. He was a member and past president of Genesee County Fireman's Association, Genesee County Fire Chief's Association, Livingston County Fire Chief's Association, Southeastern Michigan Fireman's Association, Michigan State Fireman's Association, Michigan State Fire Chief's Association, International Association of Fire Chief's and was appointed to the State of Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council by Governor Milliken. He also served as a charter member and past president of the Fenton Rotary Club, Michigan Construction Code Commission and Genesee County Building Inspectors. He is survived by his children, Leo (Teresa) Doan, Ruth Dorland and Joan (Tim) Salley; son-in-law, Doug Crane; eight grandsons; six great-grandchildren; brother, Paul (Sharon) Dorland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive; daughters, Rose Crane and Jean Young; sister, Mary Henderson. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com |
