Schlicht, Donna V. – Of Clio, MI, age 90, went to be with her Lord Sunday, December 12, 2021. A private graveside service and interment will take place on Monday, December 20, 2021 at Flint Memorial Park, with Pastor Erik Cloeter officiating. In late January, a memorial service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church of Clio. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Messiah Lutheran Church.

Donna was born in Mt. Morris Twp, Michigan on October 5, 1931 to Chancy “Slick” and Albena (Birchmeier) Brown. The family then moved to Clio where she attended Clio schools and graduated in 1949. The third of seven children, it would turn out that Donna was destined always to be part of big families, going on to become Mom to seven of her own children. After a short marriage to Warren Bronson, Donna married Martin S. Schlicht, Sr. on January 25, 1958, and they shared their lives together for 52 years. She was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Flint Osteopathic Hospital. After retiring in 1981, she often took care of her grandchildren, whose parents’ minds were set at ease knowing their babies were in the best of hands. She also helped care for her father, maternal grandmother Amelia “Emma” Birchmeier Krupp and mother during their final illnesses, then opened her home to care for two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law during their final illnesses. She was most dedicated to the care of her husband and kept him in their home until his death in 2010.

Donna was a devout Lutheran. She spent many years worshiping and serving at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Flint, then at Messiah Lutheran Church of Clio. Donna was a perpetually industrious, independent woman. Her garden was her pride and joy, and always included raspberries for her family to pick and enjoy right from the bush. Many friends and relatives were fortunate to learn gardening from her, along with plenty of natural remedies and healthy eating tips. Having an eye for floral arranging, Donna knew how to put the abundance of flowers she grew to great use. She was very handy around the house and a quick study when it came to “do-it-yourself” projects. She enjoyed arts and crafts, particularly woodworking and stained glass. Donna and Martin worked on many crafts together as gifts for family members and for church bazaars. She loved to sew for her family, and crafted many creative Halloween costumes over the years. Many family members have oil paintings by her that they will forever cherish. Donna was also a masterful cake decorator. One of her most memorable creations was a 75th anniversary cake for Saint Paul Lutheran Church. For relaxation Donna enjoyed curling up with a good book, and judging from her stacks of books and magazines that are now awaiting a new home, she was well relaxed!

Donna’s love for her family and friends was unfailingly evident through the constant gifts of her time and talents. She enjoyed traveling and camping with friends and family through the Flushing Waggin Wheels Chapter 48 of the National Campers and Hikers Association, and spent many happy afternoons and evenings playing cards with her brothers and sisters-in-law. Her family holds special memories of the lively Christmas parties she hosted each year at her home, the mainstays of which included minestrone soup, ground bologna and roast beef sandwiches, and her signature cut-out sugar cookies which she artfully decorated.

Donna is survived by:Children Jean (Ronald) Webster of Holly, Rachel (Robert) Haviland of East Tawas, Debbie (Carl) Cline of Saginaw, Richard (Sharon) Schlicht of Flint, Martin Jr. (Cindy) Schlicht of Flushing, Marcia Karagiannis of Parrish, FL; stepsons Gary (Joyce) Schlicht of Flushing, Alan (Sherry) Schlicht of Durand; many wonderful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; brother Glenn (Gale) Brown of Clio; Sisters-in-law Marlene Brown of Vassar, and Sandy Brown of Flushing; many nieces and nephews.
