Coon, Lloyd Nelson - Age 92, of Swartz Creek, died April 13, 2017. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, April 20 at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church, 9252 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, Fr. Gene Geromel officiating. Interment at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be 2-8 PM Wednesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, and 10-11 AM Thursday at the church. Those desiring may make contributions to the church.
Lloyd was born April 22, 1924 in Flint the son of Elmer and Jennie (Neilson) Coon. He was a 1942 graduate of Flint Central High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII as Staff Seargent . He was a 1950 graduate of Michigan Sate University. Lloyd married Bernetta Baker on March 10, 1951 in Flint; she preceded him in death October 14, 2006. He was a member of St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church. He was a past president of the Old Newsboys, and former member of the Michigan State Alumni Association. He was the Strength Coach at Swartz Creek High School for many years. He led the Girls Power Lifting team to the National Championship for 8 consecutive years. He was honored with induction into the Greater Flint Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
Surviving are: three children, Lynda (Bill) Forbes of Swartz Creek, William (Connie) Coon of St. Charles, IL, Jenny (Michael) Wiley of Fenton; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Rev. David (Joanne) Coon; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sister, John (Irene) Coon, Elmer Coon, Marion (Arthur) Conat; daughter Leah Denise Coon in 1960; and wife Bernetta.
