GREENLEES, John M. - John (Jack) Martin Greenlees of Grand Blanc, Michigan finished the back nine on Friday March 17, 2023. The Soul of this kind and considerate man has moved on to Greater Things.
Jack was born on September 9, 1937, in Cheboygan Michigan to Harold
and Laura ( Wagner ) Greenlees. He was the first of four boys to make
up the Greenlees Team. After residing in Cadillac, Michigan, the family moved to Auburn Heights, Michigan where Jack graduated from
Avondale High School in 1955. Jack attended Alma College and it was
there that he met Caroline Schaub from Birmingham, Michigan, who
would forever become his “Sweets”. Jack won her heart and her love
with his gentle and kind personality.
With his interest in Engineering and Mathematics, Jack worked as a
Draftsman with Modern Engineering in Royal Oak, Michigan. He later
worked with the Buick Motor Division of General Motors in Flint,
Michigan where he had a long and storied career working in both the
Body Group and the Chassis Group. Jack ended his career with Troy
Design, a company he helped create and lead.
Jack was a long-time participant in the Grand Blanc Athletic Boosters
Foundation. He held various Elder and Committee positions in local
churches, where he and Caroline worshipped. Jack always prided
himself in giving to those less fortunate, and could be counted on
during the Annual Old Newsboys of Flint Fundraising Drive. Jack served in several positions in the Natures Cove Homeowners Association where he and Caroline moved after retirement.
Jack had a life-long commitment to Scouting with the Tall Pine Council. Along with participation, preparation, and attendance in various Council Activities at Camps TaPiCo and HoLaka, Jack was one of the Adult Scouts that attended the 1973 National Scout Jamboree at Moraine State Park in Pennsylvania with Troop 368. Jack’s countless contributions were recognized when he was presented the Silver Beaver Award, which honors adult leaders who have made an impact on lives of youth through council service.
Many of Jack’s Life Lessons were taught to his boys via sports. He was a teacher, a coach, and a supporter to each as they found their individual interests. Mike’s interest and participation in hockey and golf continued into his adult life. Bob’s excellence in football could be compared to Jack in his younger years, while Brian’s competitive swimming, which was a favorite of Jack’s; allowed for competition against self and others along with constant time improvements.
Jack showed his softer loving side as he became a Grandpa. As a boy
who grew up with three brothers, and a father with three sons, he was blessed with not only three grandsons, but also four granddaughters. We will never know how joyed he was with each addition, but based on his time and involvement with each, he was just as proud being a Grandpa as he was being a Dad. Jack is survived by his Wife of almost 66 years, Caroline, who was truly
his “Sweets”; Three Sons: Mike (Lindy) of Surprise, Arizona, Bob (Shari) of Owosso, Michigan and Brian (Vicki) of Grand Blanc, Michigan; Brother: Don Greenlees of Oxford, Michigan, and Sister-in-Law: Sharon Greenlees of Troy, Michigan; Grand Daughters: Pam, Kim, Julia, and Libby; Grandsons: Brian, Geoff, and Tim, and Great Grandchildren : Beckham, Farrah, Kennedy, Theodora, Camille, Malcolm, Charlotte, Roman, Henrik, Abbey, and Caleb.
Jack was preceded in Death by brothers Dr. James Greenlees of
Birmingham, Michigan and Thomas Greenlees of Troy, Michigan ;
Sisters-in-Law: Janet Greenlees, Dorcas Greenlees and Susan Heyniger
and both of his parents.
The family wishes to thank Swartz Funeral Home of Flint; Provisions
Living of Fenton and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and
compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jack’s memory to the Old Newsboys of Flint, 6255 Taylor Dr., Flint, Michigan 48507 or Boy Scout Troop 368 c/o First Congregational Church, 6494 Belsay Rd, Grand Blanc Twp, Michigan 48439, Attn: Mike Weber.
