Mother Leunia "Lee" Starks-Bray of Flint
Funeral service 11am Monday October 17,2022
Leunia "Lee" Starks-Bray was born on February 27,1959 in Houston, Texas. She relocated to Flint MI when she was 7 years old with her mother, Lois Starks, and two sisters, Willie Lou "Willlou" Williams and Wionia "Lorraine" Starks. While living in Flint, Lee attended schools within the Flint Community School District. After graduating she attended Jordan Community College where she majored in Business Administration. She began her working career with the Flint Board of Education where she held multiple positions at many school campuses throughout the community. Lee retired from her career in 2006.
Throughout Lee's young adult years, she was more introverted and kept a close circle of friends. These friends included the late Bertha Covington, Tim Beauguard, Ralph Chapman, Vickie Brand, and the late Dessy Dockery. She committed herself to marriage in 1987 to Harry Carter where they later divorced but still remained close friends. Some of her hobbies included playing Spades and Domino's, dancing and listening to music, and putting her best efforts into dressing to the nine's.
Lee became a mother in 1979 where she began her journey to raising four beautiful daughters. She enjoyed motherhood and caring for her family. She took pride in maintaining a clean and fashionable home. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, shopping, and spending time with her family. After Lee learned of her grandson's birth in 1997, she decided that she would be called NaNa. During Lee's grand-parenthood she always had her grand-children and created close bonds with each one of them. She took a liking to making blankets, where she would later create a business and had the opportunity to ship them all across the United States.
Lee leaves to cherish her memory: her 4 daughters Lakarsha Corthion of Phoenix, Arizona, Shanique Hopkins of Flint, MI, Shanell Carter of Mt. Pleasant, MI and Lois "PoohBear" Carter of Flint, MI; 6 grandchildren Tony Corthion Jr. and Destiny Corthion of Phoenix, Arizona, Rico-D'Shawn Hopkins, Ramona-Renee Hopkins, Baby Hopkins, and Kaiden Cole Carter all of Flint MI; mother Lois Starks of Flint, MI; sisters Willie Lou "Willlou" Williams and Wionia "Lorraine" Starks both of Flint, MI ; nieces Aurbrey (Mark) Buckley and Chrishonda Starks; and nephews Roderick Williams and Overseer Lequin Williams Sr. all of Flint MI. Lee also leaves to cherish her memory a host of great nieces, nephews, extended family, and special friends Harry Carter, Ralph Chapman, and Vickie Brand.
Lee was preceded in death by her uncle Albert Jones Sr., uncle Willie Floyd Starks, and uncle Adam "AD" Jones; great niece Diamond Harper and great great nephew Malikhi Wade.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Overseer Lequin Williams Sr and the Divine Revelations church family, Legacy Funeral Chapel, Dr. Josephine Bello and staff, Freesnius Kidney Care Center, nurses Cindy and Rose from Absolute Home Health and Hospice team, and all of our family and friends for your love and support.
