HARRIS, William W. (Bill) - Of Davison, age 78, died Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at McLaren-Lapeer.
Bill was born in Flint, Michigan, on November 5th, 1942, to parents Rita E. Harris (Glowski) and Robert W. Harris. After graduating from Flint Central High School in 1959, Bill earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the University of Michigan-Flint in 1963, and a Master’s Degree in Management from Wayne State University. He started his career in service to the community in the healthcare field at Hurley Hospital in Flint, MI, and finished his career as the Director of Diagnostic Services at Pontiac General Hospital, retiring in 2000 at the age of 58. Bill always demonstrated a strong sense of family and service to others, and if you were fortunate enough to meet him, you became "adopted" into the family.
Bill married Kay Annette Harris (Johnson) in May of 1968. After the birth of their first daughter April in 1969, they moved from Pontiac, MI, to Davisburg, MI. Bill and Kay enjoyed time with friends and family while living on Big Lake, and their second daughter Robyn was born in 1972. Bill had many adventures with his daughters on the water and taught them that there wasn’t anything that they couldn’t do. Between swimming (hold your breath), canoeing (the canoe was full of water), skating (dad was not so graceful), fishing for bluegills, and conducting turtle races, the years on the lake were wonderful.
In his active retirement, Bill enjoyed swimming with the "Pool Ladies" at the Davison Athletic Club, where he had many friendships over the years. He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, cooking “creative” spicy food, and hunting deer. Bill was the official camp cook - while he only got one deer in all the years he went up north, he played lots of cards while relaxing with his buddies. Bill also enjoyed traveling the world, from Europe to Asia to the Caribbean, with his "favorite sister" Marianne. His extended family was all over the globe.
To mourn his loss, Bill leaves his daughter April Elliott (Harris) and her husband Scott Elliott, and daughter Robyn Harris and her partner Eric Collins; granddaughter Annabelle Calderwood and beloved grandson Skyler Flynn Collins; step-grandchildren Alexa Locchead, Ethan Elliott, and Izabella Elliott; sisters Marianne Corrigan, Teresa Mull, and Kristine Pado and her husband Tom Pado; and niece Dr. Anne Corrigan Day and her husband Jonathan Day. He also leaves behind many Glowski, Johnson, and Harris cousins, nephews, and extended "adopted" family. The family would also like to thank Bill's loving caregiver Amy Klamert.
Bill may have left us but he lives on in our hearts. In honor of his wishes, he will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in Bill’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association through act.Alz.org.
