Uptegraff, Mary Arlene, age 88, of Davison, died January 13, 2024 in Punta Gorda, FL. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a future date.

Mary was born in Juddville, MI on April 26, 1935 to John & Beulah (Wilcox) Luce. She graduated from Kearsley High School in 1953 where she met classmate, Carl Uptegraff; they married the following year and moved to Davison. Mary and Carl owned Uptegraff’s Orchard in Davison for nearly 20 years where Mary ran the day-to-day operations.

Mary was a member of the Community of Christ Church, Eastside Branch in Flint. She was a lifetime member of the Mayflower Society, Daughters of the Union and DAR. Mary was an avid ancestry historian who delighted in her family research and was also a member of the Flint Genealogical Society. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, cooking and baking. Her amazing cooking skills proved just that with award-winning pies, several of which brought in the highest bid at the FL subdivision annual pie auctions.

Mary took up the game of golf later in life but it soon became a passionate interest of hers. One of her most memorable moments was making her

first Hole-In-One in Florida at the age of 85. She especially enjoyed golfing with her friends in Michigan and Florida.

Mary was a hard-working and dedicated woman who deeply loved her family. Known to many as Mother Mary, her determination, independence and strong-will was known and respected by others. She will always be loved and remembered by her family and friends.

Surviving are: son, David Uptegraff (Connie) of Tenn, daughter, Carolyn Phillips (Brian Ross) of Davison. 6 grandchildren: Sarah (Tommy) Thompson, Robert (Amy) Phillips, Michael Beutler, Andrew Phillips, Jonathan (Brie) Uptegraff and Charles (Jackie) Beutler.

6 great-grandchildren. Sisters: Lola Robson and Kathrine McGinnis. Many other family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 1987, 2nd husband Cleon Doty in 2004, daughter Marilyn Rivett, great-granddaughter Haven Thompson, son-in-law Robert L. Phillips, sister Donna Peterman and brother Robert Luce.
