Davis Pierce Moore, age 75, of Flushing, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 15, 2020, at McLaren-Flint Hospital. Cremation has taken place.
Davis was born in Flint, Michigan on August 22, 1945 to Dr. Glenn and Kathryn (Pierce) Moore and graduated from Howe Military School in 1963. He then served in the U.S. Army and fought for our country in the Vietnam War. Following his graduation from Hillsdale College in 1969, he taught at Flushing’s Central Elementary for 37 years until his retirement in 2006.
Davis loved great music and had an amazing record collection which led him to his "weekend gig" as a DJ for countless weddings, graduation parties, and other celebrations. Cooking, grilling and gardening were also his passion, and he was known far and wide for his "award winning" salsa, hot pickles, and vegetables. All his friends and family looked forward to the annual “Chili and Bloody Mary Night at the Moore’s”.
Annual trips to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina with his family and to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin with his friends were the highlight of his summers and gave him the most joy. A true native of Flint, there wasn't anywhere he could go without seeing someone he knew. He was generous beyond reason, was a great listener and advice giver, and truly cared about others. All that knew him loved him.
Davis is survived by his children, Jefferson Moore and Katie (Tim) MacDonald, their mother, Cecily (Holmes) Moore; grandchildren, Lauren and Trey MacDonald; brother, Joel Moore; brother-in-law, Peter Allen; nephew; Brian Allen, step-children; Holly (Steve) Hatfield, Eric (Nicole) Schwertner, and Tyson Schwertner.
Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Jodi (Schwertner) Moore: sister, Julia (Moore) Allen; nephew, Scott Allen, and his mother and father.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of Davis's life will be held at a later date. |
