Michael Joseph Goodroe

Born: 5/26/1996
Died: 5/9/2021
Age: 24
Community: Flint, MI

Few people can claim championship titles in motorcycle racing or powerlifting. Yet even though Michael Joseph Goodroe claimed both titles and more, these weren’t the honors he held most dearly. Instead, he cherished these titles: Father. Brother. Son. Friend. These names meant the world to Michael and he wore them with such pride. Everyone who knew Michael knows he never did anything less than 110% and loving his family was certainly no exception. Michael took life fast and yet he never neglected to make each moment with a loved one seem like the only moment that mattered.

Michael had a huge heart and while love for his family took first place, he certainly had plenty of love leftover for the gym, motorcycles, and of course, food. Michael chased his goals with a passion and that showed when he won the Michigan State Powerlifting Champion earlier this year. He may never have mastered time management, but it’s clear he mastered his time in the gym! When Michael wasn’t working on his powerlifting skills, he could be found eating at Sagano. Like every other area of his life, Michael wasn’t willing to be average, and he could (and did!) eat with gusto. If you’ve ever been to Sagano, you know that eating the entire mountain of food they give you is no joke, yet Michael would eat every bite! And still, somehow, he would manage to be hungry again not long after!

A gifted motorcycle racer, Michael looked forward to when he was traveling across the country racing with his Dad and big brother Anthony. He crammed a lifetime of memories, trophies, checkered flags, and state championships into a few years of racing, and he loved every moment of it. He got to live the life so many young boys dream of, and yet he stayed humble and kind. His life wasn’t all racing and excitement; Michael also knew the value of quiet and seemingly ordinary moments: sitting on the floor playing with Adelin, fishing with his family, making jokes with his buddies at Lear. He cherished these moments.

Although earlier than we would want, Michael is reunited with his mom, Patricia, grandfather Thomas, and Aunt Terri. Michael wouldn’t let a day pass without telling his family he loved them and today is no exception, so to those Michael left behind, to Kellie and Adelin; father Robert (Dawn); siblings: Anthony (Morgan Cox), David McGrath, Nichole Mees, Bethany Cheza; family matriarch Betty; and uncles John (Shannon Weidman) and Pete (Donna).......we know if he were with us today, he would say “I sure do love you!”
