SHAMEL, George Wesley – of Flint, MI, age 92, passed away from a broken heart on Thursday, September 7, 2023. A Funeral Service will be held 1 PM Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Chris Radcliffe officiating. Interment immediately following the service in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 10:30 AM-1 PM Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in George’s memory.
George was born in Flint, MI on April 18, 1931, son of the late Roy and Ida (Manwaring) Shamel. He married Edith Gross on June 17, 1950 and she preceded him in death on August 19, 2023. Professionally, George was a milkman, working for several local dairies. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and spending time with his family at Houghton Lake.
George is survived by his 4 children, Donna (Dennis) Chesnut, Leslie (Nancy) Shamel, Bonnie (James) Devereaux and Thomas (Carrie) Shamel; 6 grandchildren, Sherry, Lonnie, Christy, Dan, Jason and Linna; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary (Jerry) Rezler and Phyllis Shamel; several other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ida Shamel; wife, Edith Shamel; 6 siblings, Albert Shamel, Betty (Bud) Collins, Donna (Alden) Dean, Ronald “Tuffy” Shamel, Wayne Shamel and Royce (Sandy) Shamel.
