SYLVESTER, Jerald A. “Jerry” – of Davison, MI, age 92, passed away on March 14, 2022 at Springvale Assisted Living and Memory Care in Swartz Creek, MI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 PM on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St. Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Entombment with Military Honors will take place following the Mass at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. A Memorial Service under the auspices of the Davison Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree Council # 4090 and 4th Degree Assembly # 0523 will be held at 6 PM Monday, March 28, 2022 followed by a Rosary at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd. Davison, MI. The family will receive visitors from 3-6 PM on Sunday, March 27, 2022 and from 12-3 PM and 5-7 PM on Monday, March 28, at Allen Funeral Home, and before the Mass from 11 AM-12 PM Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Building Fund.
Jerry was born in Flint, MI on January 26, 1930, son of the late Albert and Mary (Spegel) Sylvester. After graduating from St. Michael High School, Class of 1949. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps where he served as a cook during the Korean War. He married Margaret “Peggy” Geary on February 8, 1958 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Flint, MI. She preceded him in death on November 10, 2020. Jerry was a Millwright at Fisher Body Plant #1 for 40 years, working until they closed the plant in 1988. He was a member of the U.A.W. #581 as well as the 3rd Degree # 4090 and 4th Degree Assembly # 0523 of the Davison Knights of Columbus Council. He was a member of the St. John Church in Davison and was an usher for many years. He was a past president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and an active member for over 40 years. Jerry enjoyed bowling, golf, cards and spending time with his family. He loved his Lawrence Welk tapes.
Jerry is survived by his 4 children, Thomas (Laura) Sylvester, Gary (Evelyn) Sylvester, Michael Sylvester and Amy (Leo) Dion; 3 grandchildren, Marianne, Leo and Timothy Dion; several nieces, nephews, and many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary; wife, Margaret; son, Steven; and brothers, Ronald and Albert.
The family would like to thank the Medical Team Hospice and Springvale Assisted Living and Memory Care who took care of Jerald.
