On Sunday, March 3, 2024, William (Bill) Mahl passed away after a lengthy battle with COPD.

Bill was born in Saginaw, Michigan to Victor and Elaine (Callender) Mahl on October 10, 1940.

Bill leaves behind, his daughter, Jacqueline Pomranky (Cliff Urmanic, Jr); Sons: Christopher (Christie) Mahl, and Matthew (Cammy) Mahl; Grandchildren: Mallorie, Charlie, Brock & Austin; Sister, Jean (Bill) Peterson and many nieces, nephews & cousins.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Cynthia (Vought) Mahl; Sister, Nola (Mahl) Humes; Brothers: Bob & Tim Mahl and his parents Vic & Elaine.

Bill was very proud of his service in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Wasp, as he was present during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Bill also loved seeing the world during his service.

Bill was proud to be a skilled tradesman at General Motors; having 30+ years seniority and working as a Cutter Grinder in the Tool Room. Bill was selected to learn the newest technology; CNC toolmaking at the vendor in Virginia and bring that technology back to Flint. He then trained his fellow Skilled Tradesmen on the new CNC machines, in the mid-80s.

Bill enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, hunting, bowling, pool and golf. He loved playing poker and taking trips to the casinos. Bill restored & enjoyed driving several vintage GM muscle cars - 1970 Monte Carlos being his favorite. Bill also enjoyed traveling, taking the family on many cross-country vacations, during the 2-week shut down period that GM gave, annually.

In his later years, time spent with grandchildren, brought the most joy to Bill’s life. He took pride in watching them grow and become young adults that he admired for their intelligence, spirit and humor.

Bill will have visitation on Sunday, March 10, 2024, from 12PM until 6PM, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio, Michigan. His funeral service will be at 11AM, Monday, March 11, 2024 at the funeral home, with another family time from 10AM until 11AM that same day. Per his wishes, cremation and burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Humane Society of Genesee County & Genesee County Animal Control are appreciated.
