Hammond, Delores A. “Dee” – of Montrose, age 87, died Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at Medilodge of Montrose. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, December 11, 2020 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Don O’Guinn will officiate. Private burial will follow in Montrose Township Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 10 AM until the time of service at 1 PM. Covid restrictions limit attendees to a total of 25 so please be aware of the limit and plan accordingly. A public memorial will be held in the summer time to accommodate the community.
Dee was born on April 26, 1933, in Durand, Michigan to the late Hermey and Lillian (VanValkenburg) LaRue. She was a lifelong resident of Montrose and graduated from Montrose High School. Dee married Walter G. Hammond on August 24, 1957. He preceded her in death on August 2, 2019. Dee and her husband, Walt, owned and operated Diane’s Pastry in Montrose for over 50 years. She was a longtime member of the Montrose Chamber of Commerce and she and Walt were honored as Grand Marshals of the Montrose Blueberry Festival. The Hammonds were also honored as Citizens of the Year, Business of the Year and Longtime Public Servants. Dee was also very active with the Montrose Community Schools, local churches and civic and fraternal groups. She loved Montrose and could always be counted on to help wherever needed.
Surviving are: Son, Randy Hammond (Sheri Bursach); Grandchildren: Ryan, Shelby, Emily, and Taryn; Daughter in law, Penney Hammond Wakefield. Nieces, nephews and many loving friends.
