GEORGE, Ernie “Pooch” – of Mt. Morris, age 66, died peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at his residence surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM Thursday, January 16, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church - 11110 Saginaw St., in Mt. Morris. Fr. Roy Horning celebrant. Burial at Calvary Cemetery to follow. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 4PM until 8PM, Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 10AM until 8PM, and at the church on Thursday from 10AM until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to St. Mary Catholic Church. The family invites family and friends to bring a little trinket, gadget, or any item that reminds you of Ernie to place in his casket prior to Mass.
Ernie was born February 15, 1958, in Huntington, West Virginia. He attended Beecher High School and Mott Community College. On February 14, 1995, Ernie married Melissa “Lisa” Schmidt, and together they shared nearly 30 years of marriage. Prior to his retirement in 2009, he proudly worked at Buick, and he was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Ernie was a big family man who enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, especially his children and grandchildren. He found joy in being outdoors hunting, fishing, golfing, and above all, keeping up with mowing his lawn. Ernie carried an incredible knowledge of fixing cars and spent many days making memories on Clovis St. with his brothers and cousins working on cars. He had a passion for music, learning to play the drums at a young age and singing. Ernie was the kind of guy who always made you feel important and loved, and he will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Ernie is forever loved by: Wife, Lisa George; Children: Jennifer (Edison) Amaya, Rachel Middleton, and Ernest (Tina Marie) George, Jr.; Grandchildren: Nicholas (Lisa) Lester, Izalia (Michael) Valle, Thaleea Amaya, Edison Amaya II, DeAysa James, Shayla Lester, Alexa Drake, Michael Drake, Jr., Jessica Skillman, and Steveie Foster; Great-Grandchildren: Nicholas Lester, Jr., Trevor Bisalski, Anthony Bisalski, Analia Orman, and Addilynn Orman; Siblings: Willa Mae Wilson, Margaret Handshoe, Chester Dawson, Fred Dawson, Glenna McLaren, Mariea Wilson, Ronnie George; Many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends. Ernie was preceded in death by: Parents, Ernie R. Davis and Mary Ann Atkins; Siblings: Billy Jean Dawson and James Eddie George; Mother-in-law, Mary Jane Schmidt.
