FLEMING, James Curtis – of Burton, MI, age 75, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021 at McLaren Medical Center, with his loving wife of 53 years at his side, holding his hand. A Funeral Service will be held 12 PM Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Jeff Dennington officiating. Interment in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 4-7 PM Monday, June 7, 2021 and 11 AM-12 PM Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, in James’s memory.
James was born in Paragould, Arkansas on July 14, 1945, son of the late Curtis and Dortha (Akins) Fleming. He was a graduate of Southwestern High School in Flint, MI Class of 1963. James proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1965-1969. He married Esther Murray on June 6, 1968 in Flandreau, South Dakota. James retired from Flint Board of Education in 2000 after 30 years of service. He attended Shawn Baptist Church and was a member of the Flint VFW Post #3087 and the Flint American Legion Post #64. James enjoyed camping, NASCAR, NHRA Drag Racing, Pro Rodeo and most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
James is survived by his wife, Esther Fleming; 3 children, Warren (Marcy) Fleming of Churubusco, Indiana, Terri (Mike Richard) Fleming of Burton, MI and Crystal (Jason Soltis) Fleming of Burton, MI; 6 grandchildren, Kaitlynn Ketrow, Tyler Fleming, William “Bill” Fleming, Colten Fleming, Michael Richard and Daniel Richard; 1 great-grandson, Stone Kelly; 1 special adopted granddaughter, Harper Rogers; 1 brother, Larry (Donna) Fleming of Golden Valley, Arizona; family dog and his special fur buddy, Bandit James; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Dortha Fleming and sister, Margaret Taylor.
