WALKER, Merlin G. “Mort” – of Montrose, age 81, died peacefully at home on Thursday, January 2, 2025, with family by his side. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church - 400 N. Saginaw St., in Montrose. Rev. Fr. Brian Lenz officiating. Burial to follow in Montrose Twp. Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose on Wednesday from 12PM until 8PM, and at the church on Thursday from 10AM until the time of Mass at 11AM.

Merlin was born December 29, 1943, in Port Huron, Michigan, to the late Guy and Hazel (Curtiss) Walker. He married Karen Mihalic on July 15, 1978, and together they built a life full of love and cherished memories. Mort and Karen worked at Meijer on Pierson Road shortly after they were married where their coworkers, jokingly called them “Mork and Mindy,” after a popular TV show at the time. A hardworking man, Mort dedicated much of his life to his career as a truck driver. In addition to his work on the road, he worked at American Optical, Mueller Brass in Port Huron, and the Montrose Gas Station. Alongside his wife, he proudly owned and operated Curtz Pool Water in Montrose, where he loved to deliver water and bring joy to children by tossing them into the cold pool water, a moment they always looked forward to. Mort had a passion for working on semi-trucks and always enjoyed tinkering with them. Known for his sense of humor, he was a jokester who loved making others laugh and bringing smiles to everyone around him. Above all, He loved spending time with his family. His work ethic, kind heart, and playful nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Surviving are: Wife, Karen Walker; Children: Dawn Staley (Jr. Bellant), Chris (Bob) Collins, Kim (Jeff) Rupright, Jack (Erin) Michaluk, Karla Walker, Rosann (Brad) Croskey, and Ashley (Bubba) Persall; Grandchildren: Scotty (Becca) Staley, Natalie (Tony) Dean, Ronald Young II, Keith Walker, Brad (Aubrey) Croskey, Brian Walker, Gabby Jones, Kari Walker, Cameron Walker, Arizona Walker-Croskey, Nevaeh and Ty Persall; Great grandchildren: William and Weston Staley, Ronnie III and Preston Young, Brayden and Oaklee Croskey, Colt and Beksley Dean; Sister, Ruth Ann King; Many other loving family members and dear friends. Merlin was preceded in death by: Son, Timothy Walker; Mother, Hazel Conger; Father and Ma, Guy & Nadean Walker; Brothers: Gerald Walker, and John Stone; Sisters: Beulah Olson, Norma Schroeder, Diane Uresti, and Charlotte; Brothers in law: Joseph Mihalic, and Dennis Gross.
