McNamara, Edward Charles – of Birch Run, age 99, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
Edward Charles McNamara was born to the late Edward and Ozellah (Carroll) McNamara, on January 26, 1927, in Flint, Michigan. He was a lifelong resident of Birch Run and graduated from Birch Run High School with the class of 1945. Ed was also a lifelong member of Ss. Francis and Clare Catholic Church. For 8 years, Ed worked for Birch Run Area Schools before becoming the Birch Run Postmaster in 1964, retiring in 1987. He volunteered with the Birch Run Fire Department for 50 years and served on the Birch Run Village DDA for 12 years. Ed married Peggy Anne Atkins on January 4, 1964, she preceded him in death on January 5, 2015. He was also preceded by his former wife, and mother of his children, Beverly J. Morse.
Left to cherish his memory are: 4 Sons: James (Diane) McNamara of Flushing, Michael (Pam) McNamara of Grand Blanc, Ed (JoAnne) McNamara of Birch Run, and Chris (Diane) McNamara of Clio; 3 Daughters: Helen Mitchell of Birch Run, Mary Ann Gust (Paul McFarland) of Montrose, and Jeanette (David) Buthker of Birch Run; 20 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; Brothers: Robert (Janet) McNamara, Rev. Thomas McNamara, and Richard McNamara; Sister in law, Lee Atkins; Many loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and dear friends. Ed was preceded in death by his: Brother, James in 1926; Sister, Margaret Lafferty Periard in 2019; Grandson, Michael Mitchell in 1993; Son in law, Max Mitchell in 2018; Brothers in law: Thomas Lafferty, Bill Periard, Perry Atkins, Willard and wife Jean Atkins, Andrew and wife Barb Atkins; Sister in law, Vangie McNamara.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 2PM until 8PM at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run. Visitation will continue Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Ss. Francis and Clare Parish in Birch Run from 10AM until the time of the 11AM Concelebrated Mass with Rev. Fr. Thomas McNamara and Rev. Fr. David Jenuwine officiating. Interment will follow in Birch Run Township Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Ss.
