Kay Edward McDowell, age 88, of Columbiaville passed peacefully in his sleep on January 30, 2025.
Kay was born March 8, 1936 in Columbiaville, Michigan to the late Stanley and Ada McDowell. Kay said goodbye to his sister Phyllis, sister in-law Kaye Ann, cousin Earl, and an 80 year close friend Bob Albrecht. He is also survived by his four children: Shelly, Mike, Pat, Brett, and 5 grandchildren.
Kay had quite the career starting on the family farm- First a armer, Buick factory worker, soldier in the army, selling new Chevrolets at Don Freys in Columbiaville and Summerfields in Flint, he started Columbiaville Auto Sales and McDowell Ford, started McDowell and Sons Railroad Specialties, then moved to Florida and bought Key Sealcoating and Asphalt and ran that for 20 years before finally retiring. Kay then moved back to Michigan and began farming on his brother Larry’s 40 acres in Twining. He cleared the land and raised special crops for white tail deer. Kay was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed boating, fishing, and all types of hunting. He was a solid father, businessman, family member, and friend. He had a lot of family that he considered good friends and a lot of friends that he considered good family. There are a lot that say thanks for the good times and memories, and you will be missed.
