Betty was born August 25, 1949, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Fay and Marguerite (MacLean) Limron. She was raised in the Flint area, graduating from Hamady Community High School, Class of 1967. She attended Central Michigan University before marrying the love of her life, Richard Austin on August 2, 1969, in Flint, Michigan. Together they moved to the Durand area in 1973 to raise their family. She worked for Durand Senior Care and Rehab for 15 years as an Assistant Director of Activities before continuing her employment at Durand-Vernon Area Ambulance as a dispatcher for over 25 years. She was a lifetime auxiliary member of the Durand VFW where she supported other veterans and their families throughout the years. Betty shared her talents freely and her compassion for others was unwavering. Betty enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, gardening, crafting, card making, scrapbooking, playing poker and bingo with friends over the years. Betty was gifted at quilt making and shared those treasures with family and friends. She was a member of 3 golf leagues and volunteered her time arranging golf outings supporting breast cancer research for many years. Betty and Richard purchased their winter home in Florida in 2005 where again, she made friends easily. Even in her retirement, she gave of her time by caring for those who were still living independently at home. Betty instilled love, kindness, and compassion throughout everyday life; someone once said: “Our lives are like quilts - bits and pieces, joy and sorrow, stitched with love”. She left this legacy with her family, one with admiration.
