CASTEEL, Thomas Jr. – of Montrose, age 79, died Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at his residence. Funeral service will be held 1PM Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Pastor Bob Leming officiating. A private burial will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Monday, April 3, 2023, from 1PM until 8PM and Tuesday from 11AM until the time of service at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Flushing United Methodist Church – 413 E. Main St. The family has requested that friends and family wear black and red to the funeral home in honor of Thomas.
Thomas was born March 23, 1944, in Lansing, to the late Thomas and Doris (Jones) Casteel, Sr. He attended Williamston High School where he received his high school diploma and received his master’s degree in political science at Albion College. Thomas proudly served his country as a quartermaster in the United States Navy and was the former Montrose Supervisor. He attended the Flushing United Methodist Church and was a member of the Emmaus Community. Thomas took great pride in being the Montrose wrestling coach and government teacher at Montrose Community School for many years. He enjoyed watching sports- especially wrestling, attending church, and most importantly, spending time with his family and friends. Thomas was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
Thomas is forever loved by his children: Jackie Wenkel, Teresa Casteel, Cliff (Heather) Casteel, and Heidi Root; 9 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren; Brothers: Frank (Linda) Casteel, John (Pam) Casteel, and Chuck (Wendy) Casteel; Several nieces, nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends. Thomas was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Hand. |
