GARDNER, Paul Edward – of Davison, age 67, passed away June 11, 2016 at his residence. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Thursday, June 16, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 208 E. 4th St., Davison; Dr. James Unger officiating. Burial with Military Honors under the auspices of Davison American Legion Post #267 will be in Davison Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 AM – 2 PM and 4-8 PM Wednesday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Outreach East or charity of one’s choice.
Paul was born in Flint, MI on November 22, 1948, son of the late Donald and Kathryn (Grosch) Gardner. He was a graduate of Davison High School class of 1966 and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Paul proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from 1970-1972. He was the Treasurer for the Davison Optimist Club from 1974-1977 and President from 1977-1978, and the Financial Secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church. Paul married Jo Anne Button on September 18, 1981, and they would have celebrated 35 years of marriage this year.
Paul loved photography and would always bring his camera to family gatherings and events. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and other brain teasing games. When he was younger, Paul enjoyed playing music and singing. He sang in the church choir and played the coronet, even playing Taps at military funerals in high school and during his military service. Paul was actively involved in his children’s lives. He helped coach baseball teams that his two sons played on. After the kids took up soccer, he started refereeing soccer games. He then served as the AYSO Safety Director from 1993-1995, AYSO Regional Treasurer from 1995-2003 and AYSO Area Director from 2003-2006.
Paul is survived by his wife, Jo Anne; children, Brian (Beth), Andrea (Ryan) Hanson and Jeff; granddaughter, Eliana Hanson.
