Marjorie Dean Hammon, age 92, of Burton, Michigan passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021. Marjorie was born January 21, 1929 in Marmaduke, Arkansas to the late James and Kathryn Gladish. Marjorie was preceded in death by her sisters: Lucinda Campbell, Opal Cash, Ellen Morton; brothers: Lee, Ted, and Cecil Gladish. Marjorie married the love of her life, Melvin Hammon on October 16, 1947 in the city of Paragold, Arkansas. Shortly after they moved to Michigan where they raised their four boys Teddy, Ronald, David and Michael. Marjorie worked for AC Spark Plug for over 30 years. Marjorie was a lifelong musician. In 1980, she formed the band Old South with her husband, Mel, son Ronald and brother-in-law George. Old South played many venues all over the United States. Marjorie and her band were inducted into the Michigan Bluegrass Hall of Fame in 1999 and continued to play and love music until the end. More than anything Marjorie cherished every moment spent with her family and instilled in all of them a deep sense of loyalty and love for one another. Marjorie leaves behind to cherish her memory her four sons: Ted (Linda) Hammon, Ronald (Debra) Hammon, David Hammon, Michael (Brenda) Hammon; grandchildren: Jason, Jennifer, Jessica, Michael, John, Casey, Joel, Erica; and 17 great grandchildren.
A visitation for Marjorie will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E Hill Rd, Grand Blanc, Michigan 48439. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM with one hour of visitation prior to the service at Eastgate Baptist Church, 4226 E. Atherton Road, Burton, MI with Pastor Jerome Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.
