BROWN, William “Earl” – of Flint, MI, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. A Funeral Service will be held at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 6100 Richfield Rd., Flint, Michigan on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 11:00am; Rev. Pete Scribner officiating. Entombment following the service in Crestwood Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 10:00am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society, in William’s memory.
Earl was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina on March 10, 1936, son of the late William and Catherine Brown. He married Bette VanPelt on February 11, 1956 in Flint, Michigan. He worked at Buick for over 31 years and owned and operated Earl’s Lock and Safe for many years. Following his retirement, he worked for Universal Parts & Lift for 10 years. When he wasn’t working, he loved going camping, working in the yard, tinkering in his shop, and spending winters in Florida. His greatest time was spent with his family and friends. Affectionately known as “Earl the Pearl” or “Earl the Squirrel”, he never met a stranger. His quick wit and sense of humor was a treasure that will be dearly remembered.
Earl is survived by his wife, Bette Brown; children: Alan Brown of Palm Harbor, Florida and Leta Brown of Flint, Michigan; sisters: Ruth Carter and Jeanette Gibson, both of North Carolina; along with many other loving family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Catherine; and siblings: Betty George, William Brown, and Joe Brown.
