Went to his heavenly home Friday, July 1, 2022 at Wellspring after a lengthy illness at the age of 83. Bob was born on March 14, 1939 in Bad Axe, Michigan to the late T.W. and Marguerite Johnston. He moved to Frankenmuth with his family when he was in the 5th grade. He married Leila Thompson on August 14, 1975.
Bob was an active member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth, and an associate member of Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Green Valley, Arizona. He loved searching through antique stores and sharing stories about the past with his family. Bob had a passion for his gardening and the beautiful flowers that surrounded their home.
Surviving are: daughter Anne (Allen) McDaniel; step-daughters Karen Palomares and Kathy (Kevin) Szuch; grandchildren Julie, Joe, Jenni, Melissa, DJ, Haley, Trevor, Rebecca, Ashlee, Elizabeth, Christian and Seth; many great grandchildren; brothers David (Carol) Johnston, and Thomas (Mary) Johnston; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Leila Johnston; son Scott Johnston; and stepdaughter Kelly Talarico.
Memorial services will take place on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 10:15 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St., and 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola, Frankenmuth, MI. The service will also be live streamed at www.stlorenz.org/stream. Bob will be laid to rest between services in St. Lorenz Lutheran Cemetery. Bob’s family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N Franklin St. on Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the prayer service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Lutheran Church.
