Barbara Kathleen (Haynes) Harris Schulz fell asleep in death on January 25, 2025 with her family at her side at the age of 89 at Suncrest Medical Care Facility.
She was born April 18, 1935 to Guy and Beatrice Haynes. Barbara grew up in the Metamora/Dryden area where she developed her love of horses. Her father worked at the Metamora Hunt Club and she often helped him exercise and take care of the horses. She attended country school where her aunt was the teacher. She graduated from Dryden High School in 1953.
She married John Allen Harris in 1955. They moved to Lapeer in 1957 and had 5 children: Bethany, Scott, Todd, Guy and Nicole. Shortly after their move to Lapeer, Perce Andrews, one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, called at her door and she started a Bible study. She was baptized in 1960 in the Detroit River and was a faithful follower of Jehovah until her death. Barbara and Allen were divorced in 1976.
In 1977 she met James Schulz and they were married in 1978. Barbara and Jim left for their honeymoon on Jim’s motorcycle. Quite an adventure for Barbara! They had a son, Phillip, in 1979.
She retired from the job she loved as a parapro from Lapeer schools in 2004. Everyone knew Mrs. Schulz, and she was adored by the children and loved by the staff. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed until we see her again in Jehovah’s promised resurrection.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James Toles and his wife Mabel, her nephew Rex Toles and her granddaughter Jessica Harris.
She is survived by her husband James Schulz, children Bethany Smith (Kevin), Scott Harris, Todd Harris (Beth), Guy Harris, Nicole Grace (Craig) and Phillip Schulz, 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, nieces Cheryl and Tamara and nephews Richard and Ronald.
There will not be a viewing; however, a memorial service will be held Saturday, February 8th at 3pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2800 N. Lapeer Rd, Lapeer, Michigan 48446. (Zoom information will be available upon request, please contact a family member a few days before the service.)
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility and Heart to Heart Hospice and friends and family who spent time with her while she was in facility care. |
