CHAVEZ, Elizabeth Louise “Betty” - Of Flint, Mi., age 87, died peacefully Sunday, February, 23, 2014 at her daughter’s home in Franklin, Tn. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Immediately following, a burial service will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Visitation is Saturday, March 1, 2014 2-7p.m. and Sunday, March 2, 2014 1-6 p.m.
Betty was born in Flint, Michigan on August 6, 1926, the daughter of Mary and Adlore LaRose. She has been a life-long resident of Genesee County. Betty recently lost her husband of 57 years, Lionel “Lee” Chavez, on Jan. 13 of this year.
Betty had many artistic talents and hobbies including sewing, scrapbooking, beading and drawing. She was known for her extensive doll collection. She loved dancing, bowling and she had a great love for classical standard singers. She was also a classic movies buff.
Betty is survived by daughter Bethany Wiley of Fenton; daughter Leslie & husband Greg Zarnick of Franklin, TN; son Steven & wife Georgia Bruton of Longwood, Fl; sister Joyce & husband Bob Sleva of Grand Blanc; sister Ramona Childs of Parma, Ohio; and brother Bobby & wife Sylvia LaRose of Levering, Mich. She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Tony, Renee, Kirsten and Kara; five great-grandchildren, several sisters- & brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and too many friends to count. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings: Marcella Otero, Deloris Hillier, Matthew LaRose, Jim LaRose and Loretta Grover. She is dearly loved and missed, and our memories of her will be a part of our hearts forever!
