TOWNSEND, MELVIN age 80, died Thursday, February 13, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Hill Funeral Home. 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, MI. Pastor Dan Louman officiating. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 12:00 to 8:00 P.M. Melvin was born September 13, 1933 in Flint, MI. to parents Reginald and Helen (Burren) Townsend. He retired from General Motors. Melvin served in the U.S. Army, 4th Armored Division during the Korean War. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 659, the American Legion and Eastgate Baptist Church. Surviving are wife Virginia of 61 years; children Gary (Colleen) Townsend, Kathy McElyea; daughter-in-law Shannon Townsend; grandchildren Jonathan, Brian, Ann, Kelly, Becca, Katie, Ryan, Ashley, Laura; great-grandchildren Aiden, Daxton, Lily, Scarlett and Parker due in March; sister Della (Ed) Helton; very special sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by son Michael, January 23, 2014 and brother Ike Townsend. Contributions may be made to the Cure Kids Cancer Hurley Foundation.
