DAVID W. SCHMALTZ, age 77 of Port Hope, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2021 at his home.
He was born on April 2, 1943 in Bad Axe, to the late Edwin and Esther (Lange) Schmaltz. Dave and Gloria Perdue were united in marriage on August 26, 1961 in Port Hope. She preceded him in death on September 30, 2020. Dave worked at GM Truck and Bus for 40 years.
Dave was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, a former member of the Grindstone Port Hope Sportsmen’s Club, the Port Hope Seniors and the Port Austin Seniors. He enjoyed travelling, various casino trips, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his children: Betty (Greg) Burghardt of Clio, Rick (Jane) Schmaltz of Davison, grandchildren: Jason Burghardt, Justin (Brittany) Schmaltz, Brad Schmaltz, great grandchildren: Taylor, Emily, Christopher, and his siblings: Howard (Lillian) Schmaltz of Flint, Janet (Rodney) Weiss of Port Hope, Nancy (Ken) Osentoski of Port Hope, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Dave will be Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 11 am, at St. John Lutheran Church, Port Hope, with Rev. David Dodge officiating. Burial will follow in New River Cemetery. Visitation for Dave will be on Friday, from 2-8pm at the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church beginning at 10 am until time of services at 11 am. A scripture service will take place Friday, at 7 pm, at the funeral home.
