Community: Funeral service at St. Michael ofMaple Grove, MI

Carl George Wendling, age 76, of Maple Grove, Michigan, passed away on May 19, 2026. He was born on August 18, 1949, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Arnold and Lucina (Emmendorfer) Wendling.

Carl was a proud graduate of St. Michael’s High School, Class of 1967. He dedicated over 30 years of service to General Motors, working in automotive production, while also spending many years farming — work that reflected his strong work ethic, dedication, and love for working with his hands.

A devoted member of the Maple Grove Fire Department for over 50 years, Carl faithfully served his community as Assistant Chief. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus and generously volunteered his time helping with fish fries and serving on the parish council at St. Michael’s Church.

Carl enjoyed golfing, woodworking, crafts, and building models. He especially loved working around his home and staying busy with projects. Above all else, Carl cherished his family. Being a father and grandpa brought him his greatest joy, and “Papa” was the title he wore most proudly.

He is lovingly survived by his children, Mark (Ashley) Wendling and Thomas (Taryn) Wendling; his grandchildren, James and Dominic; his siblings, Patricia (Donald) Rivette, Helene Wendling, Ronald (Ginny) Wendling, and Larry (Dorothy) Wendling; along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Lucina Wendling, and his brother-in-law, Donald Rivette.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a service at 7:00 p.m. taking place at McGeehan Funeral Home, located at 316 W.
