Horiszny, J. Thomas “Tom” – of Mundy Township, formerly of Saginaw died Monday, January 27, 2014 at his residence. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Tom was born at the Great Lakes Naval Base in Waukegan, Illinois to John and Carolyn (Trimm) Horiszny. He resided in Lansing until the age of 11 and graduated from Birmingham Seaholm High School in 1970. Tom graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in History in 1974 and earned his Juris Doctorate in 1977. Tom spent his legal career working at the Saginaw County Courthouse, first as a law clerk to judges Eugene Snow Huff and Robert S. Gilbert and then as a respected appellate attorney in the Saginaw County Prosecutor’s Office for 22 years. He was a member of the Michigan State Bar and the Saginaw County Bar Association. He was a member of the Birmingham First United Methodist Church until 1992. Tom enjoyed reading the Bible, walking, golf, U of M football and the Detroit Tigers.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Sharron whom he married on November 12, 1992. Also surviving are his beloved stepsons: Allen H. Miller of Saginaw, and Spc. Daniel E. (Laura) Miller of Louisiana. 3 granddaughters whom he adored: Hannah, Gracelyn and Audrey Miller all of Saginaw. Father, John Horiszny of Birmingham, MI. Sister, Deborah (Charles) Nicholas of Plymouth, MI. Niece, Jeanine (Matthew) Ringer; Nephew, Douglas Nicholas all of Los Angeles, CA. Tom also leaves a very special pet, his beloved cat, Princess. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn in 1981.
