GILES, FREDERICK CHARLES – Passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
Fred was born to Kenneth and Bernice Giles on March 21, 1937, in Pontiac, Michigan. He shared a nearly 60-year marriage with his beloved wife, Carol, who passed away in April 2022, after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Having retired from General Motors in Flint, Fred pursued a second career as a janitorial consultant for GM plants across the Midwest.
After his retirement, Fred and Carol traveled the world, embracing a life of love and adventure.
Fred, an enthusiastic golfer, frequented the Flint Elks Club and the Tarpon Springs, Florida Golf Course, entertaining his fellow players with humor and reminding them he had gotten 3 holes-in-one throughout his time on the course.
He was a member of the Lions club for countless years, always looking forward to the annual White Cane fundraising event. Fred also dedicated years of his life to fundraising events for the Boy Scouts of America.
Fred was a proud father to his son Jeffery, who acted as the primary caregiver to both Fred and Carol during their illnesses. Fred always called his daughter, Lisa a princess, making her feel like the most loved daughter in the world.
Fred’s greatest joy was found in his grandchildren, Alexander, Eleanor, Samuel, and Caroline.
He was loyal, kind, loving, and a heck of a dancer at wedding receptions!
Fred is survived by son Jeff and granddaughters, Eleanor and Caroline;
daughter, Lisa, and grandsons, Alex and Sam Ray.
A gathering to celebrate the life and love of Fred and Carol will be announced at a later date.
