TAUNTON, Joe B. – Of Gladwin/Secord Lake, age 87, died Friday, May 21, 2021.
Visitation 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2021 and 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Due to Covid-19 and government regulations, only 25 people will be allowed in the chapel at one time. Mask, group capacity and distancing guidelines must be practiced.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the funeral home, Pastor Steve Wood officiating.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Joe was born in Butler, Georgia on March 6, 1934, the son of the late Wanza and Corine (Theus) Taunton and came to Flint from Georgia in 1952.
He served in the U.S. Army and spent some time stationed in Germany.
On June 23, 1978 he married Zetha Eden.
Mr. Taunton worked at Chevrolet Metal Fab as a forklift driver, retiring in 1984.
After his wife retired they move to Secord Lake in Gladwin, Michigan, where too many to list friends all lived.
He was a member of Secord Eagles and was one of the founding members of Aerie #4121.
He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, pool, darts and bean bag horse shoes. He loved the Green Bay Packers.
Surviving are wife, Zetha;
children, Ron Blackhurst, Rob Blackhurst and Rochelle (Curt) Whitlock;
grandchildren, Brent(Sydney) Blackhurst and Hailey Whitlock;
sister, Linda (James) Abney;
many nieces, nephews;
sisters-in-law and special lifelong friend, John (Sue) Beck.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Cecil, Clayton, Naomi, Don, Emma Sue, Zeno and Roland; brother-in-law, Bob.
