Madelyn Lorraine Scrimger

Born: 6/22/1946
Died: 1/12/2025
Age: 78
Community: Lapeer, MI

Madelyn Lorraine Scrimger, age 78, lifetime Lapeer County resident, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and a lot of love on January 12, 2025. She was born on June 22, 1946 in Flint, to Hollis and Helen (Stanley) Sanborn.

Madelyn graduated from North Branch High School in 1964. She then went on to graduate from The Point Beauty School in Flint. Immediately upon graduation from beauty school in 1965, she started working as a hairdresser and continued until 2020. Madelyn owned and operated The Hair Loft and Madelyn & Co Hair Salons here in Lapeer for many many years. She finished her career at The Hair Company in downtown Lapeer with Ericka and Leslie, retiring at the age of 74. One of her goals in life was to make America more beautiful and she was very good at it. Madelyn made many dear friends cutting, styling and coloring hair.

Madelyn married Daniel Scrimger on June 26, 1965, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in North Branch. They were married for almost 60 years and Madelyn took great pride in being Dan’s wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother and a loyal friend to many. Madelyn loved her family dearly! “Grandma Day” was very important to her, having the grandchildren (when they were young) over to the house on a special day each week.

Madelyn also loved being outdoors and in nature. She relaxed by walking in her woods and tending her beautiful flower gardens. Growing up on Barnes Lake is where Madelyn’s love of the water started. She enjoyed boating the Great Lakes with Dan, spending time in Caseville on the water, water skiing, snow skiing and cross-country skiing. Madelyn liked any time spent with family and friends, including many long phone calls.

Madelyn is survived by her husband: Dan Scrimger; daughters: Delynn (Mike) Scrimger-Knickerbocker of Lapeer and Tricia (Phil) Scrimger-Bellinger of Metamora; grandchildren: Phillip (Claire) Bellinger, Tanner (Olivia) Bellinger, Walker Scrimger, Owen (special friend: Miranda) Knickerbocker and Tessa Knickerbocker; great-grandchildren: Tanner “Buck”, Phillip, Harper and Isla; sisters: M. Kathleen (Ralph) Deshetsky, Josephine (David) Costello, Gwendolyn Rhoda and Jorja Scrimger; sisters and brother-in laws: Sue Butterfield, Joe (Kay) Scrimger and Therese (Bob) Bertee; and many many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son: Timothy Scrimger; parents: Hollis and Helen Sanborn; and brother: Bobby Sanborn.

Madelyn’s visitation will be 4-8PM Thursday January 16, 2025 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. The Rosary will be prayed at 7PM Thursday at the funeral home. Madelyn’s funeral mass will be 11AM Friday January 17, 2025 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 6645 Washington St., North Branch, MI 48461. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church, from 10-11AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church or McLaren Hospice. Please share condolences and memories with family at www.MuirBrothersLapeer.com.
