Janice Marie Giles of Davison, age 83, died Thursday May 25, 2023 at McLaren-Flint Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday May 31, 2023 at Emmanuel Baptist Church 6434 E. Richfield Rd, Flint. Rev. John Scally officiating, burial will follow in Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive visitors from 3-7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Janice will lie in state at the church from 10 am Wednesday until time of services. Those desiring may make contributions in Janice’s memory to the charity of your choice.
Janice was born in Flint Michigan on March 9, 1940 the daughter of the late Roscoe & Ethel (Logan) Wright. In her early years she attended Mt. Morris Schools and then relocated to Kalkaska with family for several years, returning to Clio where she graduated Clio High School in 1958. She was joined in marriage to Edward Giles December 8, 1957 and they moved to Davison after her graduation in 1958. Janice was a spiritual lady who attended several Baptist Churches in the area until the Lord led her and Edward to Emmanuel Baptist Church in 1993. Janice enjoyed camping for numerous years in Kalkaska, Pigeon River and Orchard Park. She enjoyed canning especially huckleberries and would can on the open wood fire while camping with family. Her Christian Faith led her to be active in many church committees and fellowships, especially children’s Sunday school.
She is survived by her children: Daniel (Susan) Giles of Rincon, Georgia, Brent (Dianne) Giles of Harrison, Iowa, and Sarah Alpin of Mt. Morris, Michigan. She also leaves her loving twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by husband Edward Giles on March 11, 2016, son-in-law Christopher Alpin, and her sisters: Deanna Wood and Beverly Cotherman.
