Passed into Spirit on April 23rd, 2025. She was born to Rose Reiff and Peter Stareff on December 4th, 1933.
Being born during the Great Depression, she grew up knowing that she would have to be strong of heart and astute to succeed. Barb was both: a very thoughtful, caring person and also one you would better not try to slip anything by.
She never married or had children, but she loved to travel and share a trip with a friend. She also loved cars and got a new one every year as long as she was working — just ask Victor George. She helped her folks out at their bakery, the Balkan Bakery, as well as working for Illinois Mutual in Flint. She was well-thought of at the insurance office — even the Director of the office kept in touch with Barb into his 90’s when he moved out of state to be nearer his children. At the age of 45 she became the sole proprietor of the Balkan Bakery, which specialized in old-world breads that were sold in local stores and featured at many restaurants and church fish fry’s. It was the best bread. And she not only looked out for her employees, but also made sure folks got their daily bread even when they were short on cash.
Barb was young at heart and readily identified with the kids that came into to bakery, making sure they left with a sweet treat in hand. Her smile, sense of humor and caring will be missed by many.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2025 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint; Visitation 1 p.m. Monday until the time of service. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at Flint Memorial Park, 9506 N Dort Hwy (at Dodge), Mt Morris.
