Nancy Lee Young of Flushing, age 85, died Monday, January 27, 2025, at McLaren-Flint. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Rossell Funeral Home. Pastor Paul Pfeuffer will officiate. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Please consider making a donation in memory of Nancy to honor her legacy by helping her grandson, Dylan Chase, with his kidney transplant journey and any expenses associated with that.
Nancy was born in Flint, Michigan on September 29, 1939, the daughter of Nelson and Lois (Brown) Gifford. She attended Flushing High School and was a graduate of the class of 1957. Nancy married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Young, on August 27, 1960, at the Flushing United Methodist Church. They were married for 53 years. Along with raising her three daughters, Nancy was a foster mom to 42 babies. She was also known as mom to her daughter’s friends and the countless other children whose lives she touched. She babysat for many friends and family. She was Nana to her grandchildren who adored being in her company. Nancy was a wonderful seamstress, working at Bride’s World, creating many formal gowns, wedding dresses, Halloween costumes, volunteered for the Flushing Drama Department and even ran a small seamstress business from her home. She also volunteered her time for many years with the Flushing Community Schools at the ECC, Seymour and Central, with the Girl Scouts at Rainbow Forest Camp and at Genesys Hospital NICU rocking babies. She enjoyed playing Canasta with her card club for over 50 years. Nancy also worked for several years at Flushing Florist. She was a faithful member of Flushing Presbyterian Church and the Flushing Senior Center. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and she was the glue that held us all together. Her legacy of love, laughter, and caring will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
Nancy is survived by her daughters, Jeanne Skarsten; Terri and husband Mark Chase, Cathy and husband Tim Zaneske; grandchildren, Kori (Jimi) Hendricks, Dylan Chase, Jaime (Ian) Zaneske, Josh (Alli) Zaneske, Ashley Ortiz, Heather (Andrew) Wyborski; great-grandchildren, Izaiah and Leon Hendricks, Anthony and Aubrey Ortiz, Rickee, Andy, Wylder Wyborski, Elaina Murphy; brother Bill (Linda) Gifford; and many other beloved family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald in 2013; her parents; and son-in-law, Jeff Skarsten |
